Strong winds uproot trees onto vehicles, injuring one person

Santa Cruz de la Sierra experienced significant disruption as strong winds, reaching up to 90 kilometers per hour, caused 23 emergencies across the city. The most common incidents involved fallen trees and branches, which municipal risk management and Emacruz teams worked to clear from various locations.

One school, Josefina Bálsamo, was particularly affected when three trees fell, damaging a classroom and the establishment's wall. As a safety precaution, students were evacuated from the premises. The severe weather also impacted traffic and caused power outages in several sectors of the city. A notable incident occurred on Avenida Busch, where a tree fell onto two vehicles, injuring one person who received assistance from emergency personnel.

The National Meteorology and Hydrology Service (Senamhi) issued a warning for moderate to strong northwesterly winds, with speeds ranging from 60 to 90 km/h. This alert is in effect until Sunday and covers numerous municipalities, including San José de Chiquitos, Buena Vista, and Santa Cruz de la Sierra itself. Authorities urged citizens to exercise extreme caution due to the risks posed by falling trees and structures, as well as potential damage to electrical infrastructure.

Beyond the urban emergencies, firefighters were also deployed to provincial areas to combat grassland fires. In Roboré, a timely intervention by firefighters prevented a fire near the railway tracks from spreading into the urban park. Similarly, in San Matías, forest firefighters controlled an interface fire in the Cañón de Fátima community, responding effectively to the situation on the ground.
