Student activists targeted by truck with ruling party slogan in Serbia

Student activists in the village of Kupinovo, Serbia, reported a frightening incident on Wednesday evening when a freight truck bearing the ruling Serbian Progressive Party's (SNS) slogan, "Serbia Wins," drove aggressively towards their promotional stand.

Jovan Milovac, one of the students present, told N1 that the group had been peacefully engaging with local residents for about an hour when the truck arrived and parked directly in front of their stand. After 15 minutes, they noticed the prominent campaign slogan on the trailer. When the driver showed no intention of moving, the students decided to relocate their stand across the street.

We had been having peaceful, productive conversations with local residents for about an hour when a man in a truck arrived and parked directly in front of our stand.

"We set up again and residents once more began approaching us to talk," Milovac recounted. "That was when the man got back into his truck. I was standing on the sidewalk to the right of the stand when he suddenly steered directly toward me. I was terrified for my own safety and for the safety of my fellow students standing right behind me."

The students reported the incident to the authorities immediately. However, they claim that the police did not arrive at the scene promptly. Consequently, the students felt compelled to go to the local police station themselves to file an official report. The incident highlights tensions between student activists and supporters of the ruling party in the region.
