Student Blinded by Cancer Wins Prestigious Education Award for Second Time

Luo Bo-xun, a student at Fengshan High School, has been honored with the Presidential Education Award for the second time, recognizing his remarkable resilience and achievements despite significant adversity. Luo lost his sight due to retinoblastoma, a rare form of eye cancer, which necessitated the removal of both eyes during his childhood and adolescence.

Despite his visual impairment, Luo has demonstrated an extraordinary capacity to overcome challenges. He has actively participated in various school activities, including the wind ensemble, where he learned to play the flute by ear and memory. He also represented his school in national music competitions. Furthermore, Luo has excelled in sports, winning gold medals in the 100-meter freestyle and breaststroke at the Kaohsiung City Games for the Disabled.

Luo's academic journey is marked by a proactive approach to learning. He utilizes assistive technologies and voice systems, collaborates closely with teachers to access materials in advance, and deepens his understanding through classroom engagement. This dedication has led to significant academic success, showcasing his determination to pursue knowledge despite his condition.
