Student Demonstrations Held at Several Points in Jakarta Today

Jakarta is experiencing widespread student demonstrations today, with protests organized at four key locations across the capital. The central Jakarta police have confirmed the gatherings, which are expected to draw significant attention to a range of student demands.

At the Arjuna Wijaya Grand Statue, multiple student bodies including BEM from Universitas Bung Karno and Trisakti, along with groups from Universitas Indonesia and others, are expected to voice their concerns. Similar demonstrations are planned in front of the DPR, MPR, and DPD complex, and along Jalan Kwitang Raya, where the Alliance of BEM of All Indonesia, Jambi Province, will present their grievances.

The protests are centered around six core demands presented by the BEM UBK, targeting the administration of President Prabowo Subianto. These include calls to halt and re-evaluate the "nutritious meal" project and the "Red and White Village Cooperatives," alongside a review of the Polri Law. Students also demand an end to militarism, the upholding of civil supremacy, and strategic government steps to stabilize the rupiah exchange rate and national economic resilience.

Further demands encompass ensuring inclusive, quality, and affordable education for all Indonesians. The protesters are also calling for a review of fuel price hikes, which they argue place a burden on the public. The scale of the security operation is substantial, with 5,955 personnel deployed to manage the situation across the city.
