Student with cerebral palsy overcomes challenges to win 'Life Warrior Award' at graduation

At the recent Hongguang University graduation ceremony, Xu Shuhao, a student with cerebral palsy, was honored with the "Life Warrior Award" and the Outstanding Club Award. Despite his physical challenges, Xu Shuhao served as the president of the university's piano club, demonstrating remarkable resilience and leadership.

Piano practice helped with finger rehabilitation training. He would cry while playing due to extreme pain in his fingers.

Born prematurely and diagnosed with cerebral palsy, Xu Shuhao's early life was marked by frequent hospital visits and rehabilitation. Learning to play the piano was initially a painful process, with his fingers struggling to produce sound and causing him extreme discomfort. He often practiced through tears, contemplating giving up.

However, with the patient encouragement of his piano teacher and the unwavering support of his mother, who accompanied him from kindergarten through high school and continued to drive him to university daily, Xu Shuhao persevered. His dedication transformed the piano into a vital element of his university experience.

I am honored to receive this award. University life mainly consisted of academics and club activities.

During the ceremony, Xu Shuhao played a musical piece for his fellow graduates. He also presented flowers to his mother on stage, a touching moment that highlighted their shared journey. He expressed gratitude to his mentors and classmates who assisted him, particularly during his tenure as piano club president. Looking ahead, Xu Shuhao hopes to continue sharing the beauty of piano music.
