Suicide attack on Pakistan police station kills seven

A suicide bombing in Pakistan's northwestern Swat district on Sunday killed seven people, including four police officers, and injured more than 20 others. The attack occurred in Kabal town when a bomber detonated an explosive vest at a busy intersection near a police station during a protest organized by civic activists.

Several of the injured are reported to be in serious condition. According to initial reports, the suicide attacker attempted to enter the police station but was stopped by officers at the main entrance before detonating the device.

No group has immediately claimed responsibility for the bombing. This incident comes as Pakistani security forces are engaged in a significant struggle against militant groups. Since the beginning of the year, 819 members of the security forces and civilians have been killed in militant attacks and subsequent retaliatory operations, according to the Pakistani army.

The attack took place in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, where security forces are confronting increased activity from the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), an Islamist militant group responsible for numerous attacks targeting both civilians and security personnel. Islamabad frequently accuses militants operating in border regions of launching attacks from Afghan territory, a claim consistently denied by the Taliban-led government in Kabul.

Tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan have escalated in recent months, leading to armed confrontations and airstrikes by Pakistani forces on Afghan soil. These actions, according to Afghan authorities and the United Nations, have resulted in the deaths of dozens of civilians.
