Sukhoi Jet Skids Off Runway in Indonesia; Airport Operations Unaffected

A Sukhoi fighter jet reportedly skidded off the runway at Sultan Hasanuddin Air Base in Maros, South Sulawesi, Indonesia, prompting an official response from airport authorities. Videos circulating on social media showed the Russian-made aircraft veering off the tarmac and coming to a halt near a barrier fence on Monday, August 24.

Despite the dramatic visuals, Taufan Yudhistira, Branch Communication & CSR Department Head at Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport, assured the public that flight operations remained unaffected. He confirmed the incident occurred on the western runway (runway 13) but stated that airport operations continue using the north-south runway (runway 03-21).

Based on the viral video on social media, we confirm that this incident did occur on the western runway (runway 13) at Sultan Hasanuddin Airport. Handling is currently underway.

Authorities are currently handling the situation. As of the report's publication, the Indonesian Air Force had not yet issued an official statement regarding the Sukhoi jet's runway excursion. The incident did not cause any reported injuries or significant damage to airport infrastructure, beyond the aircraft itself.
