PIKI: Flores communities are not alone in facing disaster

The Indonesian Christian Intellectuals Association (PIKI) has affirmed that earthquake-affected communities in Flores are not facing their disaster alone. PIKI Peduli, the association's humanitarian arm, delivered essential aid to Dusun Pohu and Dusun Doka in Desa Umauta, Sikka Regency, East Nusa Tenggara, on Sunday, August 23, 2026.

The aid package included 60 boxes of bottled water, 20 emergency lights, 40 mats, and 8 tarps, transported from the PGI and GMIT Integrated Post in Maumere. At Posko I in Dusun Pohu, which houses 36 families (168 people), PIKI's National Chairman Maruarar Sirait conveyed a message of solidarity via video call. "PIKI is here with the community. We want to convey that you are not alone. Stay strong and strengthen each other. We will continue to strive to provide support according to our capabilities and the community's needs on the ground," Sirait stated.

Similar support was extended to Posko II in Dusun Doka, home to 40 families (151 people). Here, the aid was received by local officials and community leaders. The Head of the PIKI Central Executive Secretariat, Timotius Lubis, reiterated the association's commitment to solidarity. "Today, the people of Flores are not alone. We from the PIKI Peduli Team want to convey our solidarity as fellow citizens who must strengthen and support one another," Lubis said.

Community representatives expressed gratitude for the assistance, noting its significance for those still residing in temporary shelters. PIKI Peduli's involvement highlights a dual approach of providing logistical support and crucial moral encouragement. The association also acknowledged the cooperation of the Sikka Regency government, Bola District, GMIT Kalvari Maumere, and the PGI and GMIT Integrated Post in facilitating the aid distribution.
