Sultan Qaboos University's Biomedical Science program earns international accreditation

Sultan Qaboos University's Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Science program has secured international accreditation for the second time, a recognition that will last through the 2025-2029 period. This marks the third consecutive accreditation cycle for the program at the College of Medicine and Health Sciences.

This achievement reaffirms the college’s commitment to academic excellence, its keenness on constant improvement and its dedication to the objectives of Oman Vision 2040 and the strategic plan of Sultan Qaboos University on enhancing the quality of education, learning and research.

The accreditation followed a rigorous external quality assurance assessment by the Institute of Biomedical Sciences in the United Kingdom. The Oman Authority for Quality Assurance of Education officially approved the findings on April 8, 2025, affirming that the program successfully met all reaccreditation standards.

Prof. Dr. Rashid bin Khalfan Al Abri, Dean of the College of Medicine and Health Sciences, highlighted the achievement as a testament to the college's dedication to academic excellence and continuous improvement. He stated that it supports the goals of Oman Vision 2040 and the university's strategic plan for enhancing education, learning, and research quality.

This achievement has been realized after the preparation of the comprehensive self-assessment report on reaccreditation, as well as the field visit conducted by the team of the Institute of Biomedical Sciences last year.

Dr. Nasr Al Wahaibi, Head of the Department of Biomedical Sciences, noted the extensive preparation involved, including a comprehensive self-assessment report and a site visit by the accrediting institute's team last year. Dr. Shadia Mohammed Al Bahlani, Head of the Unit of Quality Assurance and Academic Accreditation, celebrated the milestone, detailing the program's accreditation history since 2015.

This achievement represents a new milestone in the programme’s journey in the field of international accreditation. The programme has obtained accreditation for the first time for the period 2015-2019. Then the programme successfully completed the first reaccreditation cycle for the period 2020-2024. Now it has realized international reaccreditation for the second time for the period 2025-2029.
