Summer Exodus: Over 22 Million Vehicles on Roads, Traffic Flows Regularly

Italy's summer exodus is in full swing, with over 22 million vehicles navigating the nation's roads and highways during the weekend preceding Ferragosto, a major public holiday. Despite the high volume of traffic, circulation proceeded smoothly without significant disruptions. Anas, the state-run company managing the road network, attributed the regular flow to continuous monitoring and operational support along key routes. In total, 22,492,917 transits were recorded over the weekend, marking a slight decrease of 1.27% from the previous weekend and 1.5% from the same period last year. Vehicle traffic saw the most significant increases in Southern Italy, with a rise of 1.6%. More modest increases were observed on infrastructure in rural areas (+1.2%) and roads serving coastal destinations (+0.3%). Anas CEO Claudio Andrea Gemme stated that the company ensured constant monitoring to guarantee the safety of millions of travelers during one of the busiest weekends of the summer. He highlighted the efforts of the territorial presence, operational centers, and staff in effectively managing traffic flows and assisting users across the network.
