Summer Returns with Thunderstorms and Heat Up to 33 Degrees Celsius in Lithuania

Lithuania is set to experience a dramatic shift in weather as summer heat returns with a vengeance, reaching up to 33 degrees Celsius in some areas. This intense heat will be punctuated by short, localized thunderstorms.

On Friday, a wavy cold atmospheric front from the west will move into Lithuania. The day will feature variable cloudiness, with active cumulonimbus clouds forming in the afternoon. Scattered short-lived rain and thunderstorms are expected in many places, with a possibility of hail. Winds will be southerly to southwesterly, shifting to west-northwesterly in western Lithuania, with dangerous gusts possible during thunderstorms. Temperatures will climb rapidly, reaching 28–33 degrees Celsius, though western parts of the country will be slightly cooler at 24–27 degrees.

Saturday will bring a change as a small low-pressure cyclone approaches from the southwest. Cloud cover will be variable, with brief showers and thunderstorms possible in southwestern regions. Winds will be light and variable. Overnight temperatures will range from 13–18 degrees Celsius. During the day, the low-pressure system will firmly establish itself over Lithuania, leading to cloudy skies with sunny spells. Short, sometimes heavy, showers and thunderstorms are forecast for most of the country. Winds will be varied, 4–9 m/s, with gusts up to 15–17 m/s during thunderstorms. Temperatures will range between 23–28 degrees Celsius, with coastal areas slightly cooler at 20–22 degrees.

By Sunday, intense rainfall will quickly move out of Lithuania. Showers will be localized, mainly in the eastern parts of the country, with a chance of thunderstorms during the first half of the night. Winds will be light northwesterly to westerly. Overnight temperatures will drop to 13–18 degrees Celsius. During the day, a high-pressure system will strengthen over the region, resulting in variable cloudiness. Only eastern regions might see brief, light rain. Winds will become moderate. Temperatures will be pleasant and summery, around 21–26 degrees Celsius. The beginning of next week is expected to be drier and calmer under the influence of an anticyclone.
