Summer thunderstorms bring heat, rain, and severe weather warnings

Residents in Berlin and Brandenburg should prepare for a week of changeable weather, starting with a mix of sun and clouds. The German Weather Service (DWD) predicts showers and thunderstorms, particularly in the northeast, where severe weather conditions including heavy rain, hail, and strong gusts are possible.

Starting Tuesday, a noticeable temperature increase is expected across the region. Highs are forecast to range between 28 and 31 degrees Celsius in northern Brandenburg and Berlin. Southern areas are likely to experience even warmer conditions, with temperatures potentially reaching 30 to 33 degrees Celsius. Consequently, a Level 1 heat warning has been issued for the districts of Elbe-Elster, Spree-Neiße, Oberspreewald-Lausitz, and the city of Cottbus, indicating a perceived temperature likely to exceed 32 degrees Celsius.

The weather on Tuesday is described as hot and wet, with showers and thunderstorms anticipated from the morning. Despite these conditions, longer periods of sunshine are also expected. The probability of rain and thunderstorms increases in the afternoon, with the DWD warning of potential severe weather, including heavy rain, strong winds, and hail in some locations.

Temperatures are set to climb further, potentially reaching maximums between 32 and 35 degrees Celsius. The DWD forecasts a continued risk of severe weather, particularly in northern Brandenburg, throughout the night into Wednesday, with strong showers and thunderstorms possible. Elsewhere, rain may be less frequent. Overnight lows are expected to be around 21 degrees Celsius.

Wednesday is predicted to bring a combination of sun and clouds, with dry conditions initially. However, the likelihood of localized showers and thunderstorms increases again in the afternoon. Despite the potential for severe weather in isolated areas, temperatures are expected to remain high, ranging between 31 and 35 degrees Celsius.
