Sundhöll Closed for a Month: Seven Pools to Close This Summer

Reykjavik residents will face limited access to public swimming pools this summer as the city undertakes essential maintenance. The closures, while necessary for upkeep, will impact recreational plans for many during the warmer months.

Sundhöll Reykjavíkur, a central facility, is set for an extended closure of nearly a month, from May 26 to June 21. This significant period of unavailability for one of the city's main pools is due to the extensive repairs required.

Other popular pools, including Árbæjarlaug, Dalslaug, Grafarvogslaug, Vesturbæjarlaug, Klébergslaug, and Laugardalslaug, will also close for shorter durations, typically one week each. The schedule for these closures is staggered throughout the summer, aiming to minimize disruption while ensuring all necessary work is completed. Breiðholtslaug has already undergone its maintenance period and has reopened.

These summer maintenance periods are standard practice for outdoor and indoor facilities alike, as the milder weather allows for necessary repairs and upkeep that cannot be performed during the harsher winter months. While inconvenient for swimmers, the closures are crucial for ensuring the long-term safety and functionality of the city's aquatic facilities.
