Serbia is bracing for a sweltering start to August, with the first day of the month expected to be sunny and extremely hot, reaching temperatures as high as 39 degrees Celsius. A potent heatwave, fueled by a warm and dry air mass from North Africa, is currently sweeping across Europe. The epicenter of this heat is over the Iberian Peninsula, making southeastern Spain the hottest part of the continent.

This intense heat is steadily advancing, moving across the western Mediterranean and Italy before reaching the Balkans. Here, temperatures are predicted to climb to a scorching 40 degrees Celsius today. Serbia will experience weak to moderate east and southeast winds, but these will offer little respite from the oppressive heat.

The Serbian Republic Hydrometeorological Service (RHMZ) has issued red and orange weather alerts, underscoring the severity of the situation. The forecast indicates that this powerful heatwave will persist throughout the entire upcoming week. The intensity is expected to escalate further between August 5th and 8th, with most areas anticipating daily maximum temperatures around 40 degrees Celsius, and some locations potentially exceeding this mark.
