Super Niño 2026 in Argentina: affected provinces, expected rain, cold wave and when the weather will change

El Niño is already active, and specialists expect the climate phenomenon to influence rainfall and temperatures in different parts of Argentina in the coming weeks. In the most extreme scenario, the event could reach an exceptional intensity known as a “Super Niño.”

In Ecuador, the National Secretariat for Risk Management presented “Alístate Ecuador,” a digital platform designed to provide updated information on preparedness and response capacity ahead of a possible emergency. The government’s visualizer, available through the “Alertas Ecuador” portal, shows temporary shelters, Civil Protection volunteers, community committees, warehouses and pre-positioned humanitarian aid kits.

The platform also displays historical data on adverse events associated with El Niño between 2010 and 2026, as well as areas identified by local governments as having the greatest exposure in their action plans.

In Peru, 83% of nonfinancial companies surveyed by the Central Reserve Bank said they had adopted or planned preventive measures. The survey covered 345 companies. Measures included alternative logistics routes, business continuity plans and stronger facilities.

The bank said the main expected effects were delays or higher logistics costs, difficulty distributing products, higher input prices and reduced availability of supplies. Companies not planning preventive measures included businesses in services, healthcare, security, airport services, commerce and manufacturing.
