The annual Luitejooks, the opening event of the Kahe Silla club's spring movement season, once again drew a large crowd, with 944 sports enthusiasts participating this year in Pärnumaa, Estonia. Postimees highlights the notoriously challenging nature of the Luitejooks course, located amidst the pine-covered hills of Jõulumäe. Runners faced a grueling 10-kilometer route packed with steep ascents, some reaching approximately 45 degrees, and treacherous sandy patches, demanding constant vigilance and significant physical exertion. This demanding terrain stands in stark contrast to simpler, asphalt-based races, emphasizing the unique test of endurance the Luitejooks presents. Despite the punishing nature of the race, which left many participants exhausted and gasping for air at the finish line, a sense of accomplishment and camaraderie quickly followed as runners refueled with hearty meals. The event also featured a half-marathon, with 46 participants. Jaen Ots emerged victorious in the half-marathon, completing the 21.1 kilometers in 1 hour, 23 minutes, and 28 seconds. Notably, British ultra-runner Sage Pearce-Higgins, who resides in Pärnu, secured second place with a time of 1:25:24. Pearce-Higgins further demonstrated his dedication by running to the starting point from Pärnu (a 24km distance) as a warm-up before tackling the half-marathon, and then running home afterward, showcasing an extraordinary level of commitment to the sport and the event.
