Support secures new and updated Danish artist encyclopedia

Danish art and architecture history is set to become more accessible thanks to a significant initiative by Lex - Danmarks Nationalleksikon. The organization will develop a new, free online encyclopedia dedicated to Danish artists and architects, integrating it into the national lexicon's platform at lex.dk.

This endeavor is made possible by a substantial donation from the Ny Carlsberg Foundation. The funding will be used to digitize and update the roughly 8,000 biographies contained within Weilbachs Kunstnerleksikon. This comprehensive reference work was last updated in its fourth edition in 1994, making a digital refresh and expansion crucial.

In addition to updating existing entries, the project plans to introduce approximately 600 new biographies. These will focus on artists and architects who have gained prominence since the turn of the millennium, ensuring the lexicon reflects contemporary Danish creative output. The updated and expanded lexicon will provide a valuable resource for understanding the nation's artistic heritage, both past and present.
