Surgeon, 68, missing after traveling to Mar del Plata; wife found farewell letter

A desperate search is underway for Daniel Alejandro Armesto, a 68-year-old cardiovascular surgeon, who vanished after traveling from Buenos Aires to the popular resort city of Mar del Plata. Armesto left his home in the Palermo neighborhood of Buenos Aires on Friday, heading to work, but has not been seen or heard from since.

Investigators have confirmed that Armesto took a bus from the Retiro terminal to Mar del Plata. However, his movements within the coastal city remain unclear, and authorities are working to trace his path using security camera footage. The search is being coordinated by the City Police's Missing Persons Division.

Armesto is described as having a thin build, standing 1.70 meters tall, with fair skin, salt-and-pepper hair, and dark brown eyes. He also has a scar between his navel and pubis. He was last seen wearing a black jacket.

His wife, Laura Alfonso, reported him missing on August 21st after he failed to meet her as planned and did not respond to messages. In her distress, Alfonso discovered a farewell letter in a drawer, in which Armesto stated he had "chosen the sea as his final destination" and asked her to "look for me there."

Authorities are urging anyone with information to contact the emergency services or the provided anonymous tip lines. The investigation is ongoing, with police personnel deployed to Mar del Plata to continue the search efforts.
