Suriname Appoints Former Dutch International Henk Fraser as National Coach

Henk Fraser, a former Dutch international footballer, has been named the new head coach of Suriname's national football team. The appointment marks a significant moment for the country's football, with Fraser, who was born in Paramaribo, signing a four-year contract that extends through the 2030 World Cup.

Fraser brings a wealth of coaching experience garnered in the Netherlands, having managed clubs such as ADO Den Haag, Vitesse Arnhem, Sparta Rotterdam, FC Utrecht, and RKC Waalwijk. His coaching pedigree also includes a stint as an assistant coach under Louis van Gaal for the Dutch national team.

This is not Fraser's first involvement with the Surinamese national team. Last year, he served as an assistant coach to Stanley Menzo during the World Cup qualifying campaign. Suriname reached the inter-confederation playoffs but narrowly missed securing a spot in the 48-team tournament held in Canada, Mexico, and the United States.

The Suriname Football Association expressed optimism about the appointment, noting on Instagram, "His international experience, leadership, and football vision will contribute to the further development of the national squad." Fraser's playing career also saw him represent the Dutch national team and play for prominent clubs like Sparta Rotterdam, Utrecht, Roda JC, and Feyenoord.
