Surprise results mark the final round of Iceland’s Best Football Division

The final round of Iceland’s Best Football Division delivered several surprises, including Stjarnan’s failure to secure a place in the upper half.

Stjarnan hosted ÍBV and needed a win to move up. ÍBV took the lead in the ninth minute through Aron Lukas Vokes, who finished after a through ball from Alex Freyr Hilmarsson. Hilmarsson then doubled the visitors’ advantage in the 70th minute, assisted by Vokes.

Stjarnan responded quickly. Daníel Finns Matthíasson scored in the 77th minute, and Andri Rúnar Bjarnason equalized two minutes later. The 2-2 draw left Stjarnan outside the upper half, while newly promoted Keflavík claimed the place instead.

KA also earned a significant result in the relegation battle, beating Breiðablik 2-1 in Akureyri. Hans Viktor Guðmundsson put KA ahead in the 10th minute, but Jónatan Guðni Arnarsson equalized for Breiðablik two minutes later. Mikael Breki Þórðarson restored KA’s lead in the 64th minute with the winning goal.

In another key match, ÍA faced KR at Skipaskagi. Viktor Jónsson scored in the 24th minute and doubled the lead in the 54th. KR reduced the deficit through Ástbjörn Þórðarson in the 62nd minute, leaving ÍA ahead 2-1 at the point covered by the report.
