Survey: Young counselor, have you encountered difficult situations? Share your experiences

Helsingin Sanomat is seeking to shed light on the safety protocols and training provided to young individuals working as counselors at summer camps across Finland. The newspaper is launching a survey to gather firsthand accounts of dangerous situations that counselors may have faced or narrowly avoided.

The survey specifically targets young counselors who have worked in the 2020s, whether at day camps or overnight camps like those for confirmation, scouting, or sports. It aims to assess the adequacy of their preparation for various emergencies, such as approaching thunderstorms or when a camper goes missing. Counselors are also asked if they ever felt overwhelmed by their responsibilities.

All responses will be treated confidentially, with information shared only among the journalists working on the story. Individuals willing to be interviewed for the article are encouraged to indicate their interest at the end of the survey.
