Suspect Arrested for Cyberattacks on Serbian Football Association and Health Fund

Belgrade authorities have apprehended an individual suspected of orchestrating significant cyberattacks against key Serbian institutions. The Higher Public Prosecutor's Office announced that the Special Department for Combating High-Tech Crime has ordered the detention of L.D. for up to 48 hours.

L.D. is accused of breaching the computer networks of both the Football Association of Serbia (FSS) and the Republic Health Insurance Fund (RFZO) between April and August 2026. The suspect allegedly violated security measures, committing four counts of unauthorized access to protected computer systems and four counts of computer sabotage.

Prosecutors believe L.D. obtained sensitive data and then demanded a ransom for its return, a tactic known as a ransomware attack. This action aimed to disrupt the electronic processing and transmission of data crucial to the FSS and RFZO. However, the timely intervention and arrest of L.D. prevented the suspect from extorting payment, further disseminating compromised data, or launching additional planned attacks.
