Suspect arrested for threatening Serbian online portal editor

Authorities have arrested an individual suspected of making threatening phone calls to the editor of the Volim Zrenjanin online portal. The suspect was detained for up to 48 hours after the incident was reported to the prosecution and police.

According to the portal, the suspect has confessed to the threats, expressed regret for his actions, and vowed not to repeat them. In official documents, the suspect identified himself as a supporter of the Serbian Progressive Party (SNS), stating that the portal's reporting caused him irritation. The Volim Zrenjanin editorial team noted this information as a detail from the official documentation, without drawing conclusions about any connection to the political party.

During his apprehension, the suspect was reportedly heavily intoxicated. The threats were made during a phone call, which included an invitation to a specific address in Zrenjanin, coupled with a threat of physical violence. This call occurred about ten minutes after a threatening comment, mentioning a "bullet," was posted under one of the portal's articles.

The editorial team emphasized that they are not currently claiming the commenter and the suspect are the same person or that the two events are linked until authorities officially confirm it. The case has been forwarded to the prosecution in Belgrade and its high-tech crime unit for further investigation.
