Suspect Arrested in Disappearance of Lizeth Bunshi in Quito

Ecuadorian authorities have arrested a suspect in connection with the disappearance of Lizeth Bunshi, a 28-year-old stylist who was reported missing on July 18, 2026. The investigation has led to the capture of Cristian Gonzalo V. L., whom the Prosecutor's Office intends to charge in relation to her involuntary disappearance.

The General Prosecutor's Office announced that it would file charges against Cristian Gonzalo V. L. for his alleged involvement in Bunshi's disappearance. However, the office has not yet detailed the circumstances of the arrest or provided specific evidence linking the suspect to the case. Information regarding the precautionary measures to be requested during the hearing has also not been disclosed.

Lizeth Bunshi was last seen leaving her residence in El Tingo, located in the Los Chillos valley, on Saturday, July 18. Since then, her family has had no contact with her. After failing to reach her via calls and messages, her relatives filed a report with the Prosecutor's Office and the National Directorate of Missing Persons (Dinased). They also began disseminating her information in an effort to locate her.

Bunshi, who works as a stylist and has a nine-year-old son, is described as being approximately 1.50 meters tall with a medium build. She has fair skin, light brown eyes, and long, blonde-tinted hair. When she disappeared, she was wearing black leggings with white stripes, a black t-shirt, and beige and white sneakers.
