Suspect arrested in Panama for murder of former representative candidate

Panamanian authorities have apprehended a suspect in connection with the aggravated intentional homicide of Jesús Alemán, a former candidate for representative in Juan Díaz. The victim was killed on March 29, 2026, during the opening ceremony of a sports league in Ciudad Radial, an event that also resulted in several other injuries from an armed attack.

The Metropolitan Prosecutor's Office, Homicide and Femicide Section, in collaboration with the Judicial Investigation Directorate, conducted a search in the Concepción sector. During this operation, they located the suspect and gathered evidence pertinent to the ongoing investigation.

The apprehended individual is expected to be brought before a judge of guarantees in the coming hours. The prosecution intends to request the legalization of the arrest, the formal charging of crimes, and the imposition of a precautionary measure during the subsequent court hearings.
