Suspect Detained for 30 Days in Fatal Kraljevo Traffic Accident Involving Child

A court in Kraljevo, Serbia, has ordered 30 days of pre-trial detention for a 26-year-old suspect, identified as A.J., following a devastating traffic accident. The incident claimed the life of a five-year-old girl and left several other individuals injured. The Higher Public Prosecutor's Office in Kraljevo announced the detention order on August 26. Prosecutors initiated an investigation on August 24 against A.J. for allegedly committing a grave offense against public traffic safety. The charges stem from the death of a minor, B.V., born in 2021, and injuries sustained by other minors, B.A. (born 2025), B.D., B.S., and M.D. The investigation will include witness testimonies, expert opinions from medical and traffic specialists, and other necessary evidence-gathering actions. The accident occurred around 7 p.m. on August 24, when A.J., driving a Seat vehicle, allegedly attempted to overtake another car. He reportedly collided with an oncoming Volkswagen, veered onto a pedestrian and bicycle path, struck a tree, and then hit pedestrians. The five-year-old girl sustained fatal injuries and died at the hospital. Her 32-year-old mother and one-year-old sister, who was in a stroller, also suffered severe injuries. The children's 35-year-old father sustained minor injuries, as did a 33-year-old passenger in the Seat. A.J. was arrested the following day and police checks revealed he did not possess a driver's license.
