Suspect detained in murder of 12-year-old girl in Vietnam's Dak Lak province

Police in Vietnam's Dak Lak province have detained a 20-year-old man in connection with the murder of a 12-year-old girl, whose body was discovered in a well on a coffee plantation. The suspect, Phan Ba Ngoc, has been taken into custody for investigation into the killing.

According to initial reports from the scene, Ngoc allegedly confessed to confronting the victim, identified as M.K.H., and asking if she had money. When she replied no, he reportedly struck her twice in the face with a helmet, causing her to lose consciousness. He then allegedly carried her to a well on his family's coffee farm, covered the opening, and fled on the victim's electric motorbike.

The investigation began after the victim's mother reported her daughter missing on June 20. The girl had left to go to school on her electric motorbike but never returned home. Police reviewed security camera footage, which showed the victim traveling with a young man on the motorbike around the time of her disappearance. This led authorities to summon Ngoc for questioning. Initially, Ngoc denied involvement, but after investigators discovered the victim's body in the well on his family's property and presented him with evidence, he reportedly confessed to the crime. He also allegedly admitted to pawning the victim's motorbike for 8 million Vietnamese dong (approximately $315 USD).

This tragic incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, highlighting concerns about safety and violence. The swift apprehension of a suspect, however, offers a measure of progress in the ongoing investigation.
