Suspect in Kortrijk Vetex Site Arsons Released Under Conditions

A 52-year-old man suspected of at least five arsons at the Vetex site in Kortrijk has been released by an investigating judge under strict conditions. The suspect was arrested after a neighbor heard suspicious sounds and saw a person cycling away from the scene around 11:30 PM last Friday.

The neighbor managed to take a photo of the fleeing individual, which the police used to issue a wanted notice. The suspect was recognized and linked to a previous arson incident at the same location approximately one month prior. Police apprehended the 52-year-old Kortrijk resident at his home.

Investigators believe the man may be involved in a minimum of five separate arsons targeting the Vetex site. He was brought before the investigating judge on Sunday, who ultimately decided to release him pending further legal proceedings, imposing stringent conditions on his release.
