Suspected drunk driver attacked by alligator while fleeing police in Louisiana

A man fleeing police in Louisiana ended up in an alligator's jaws after jumping into a swamp. The incident occurred on June 7 when authorities noticed Víctor Rivas, 40, driving erratically near New Orleans. After crashing his vehicle, Rivas caught the attention of police who observed signs of intoxication.

When officers attempted to stop him, Rivas fled on foot, jumping from an overpass into a swamp. Deputies joined the pursuit, eventually locating Rivas on a road. He again fled into the swamp, where he was attacked by an alligator, sustaining injuries to both arms. The attack was captured on a deputy's body camera.

Despite his injuries, Rivas continued to evade capture but was located by police drones. He was arrested upon exiting the swamp and taken to a hospital for treatment of his non-life-threatening wounds. Rivas faces charges including driving while intoxicated and resisting arrest. Authorities noted the alligator was unharmed and has returned to its usual swamp patrol.
