Suspected femicide in San Lorenzo: Woman dies from gunshot, partner detained

Police in San Lorenzo, Paraguay, are investigating the death of a 26-year-old woman, identified as Nilsa Raquel Brítez Garay, as a suspected femicide. The woman was found deceased from a gunshot wound to the head inside a rented apartment on July 13, around 6:10 PM. Her 30-year-old partner, Cristhian David Romero, was arrested at the scene.

According to police reports, the owner of the building heard a gunshot and went to investigate. He found Romero in apparent shock inside the apartment and later discovered Brítez Garay lying on the floor, unresponsive. The owner immediately alerted emergency services.

Initial police findings suggest the victim sustained a gunshot wound to the head, with preliminary examination indicating the projectile entered but did not exit. When officers arrived, Romero was reportedly attempting to revive the victim. A .32 caliber revolver was seized from the location.

Commissioner Damarys Villalba, head of the Reducto police station, confirmed the details and stated that Romero was apprehended inside the residence. The investigation is ongoing to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the death.
