Suspected La Unión Tepito cell leader "El Chícharo" arrested in Mexico

Giovanni “N,” known by the alias “El Chícharo,” has been apprehended by Mexico City police in Nezahualcóyotl, State of Mexico. Authorities describe him as a suspected leader of a criminal cell associated with the La Unión Tepito cartel. The arrest was made in coordination with the State Attorney General's Office of Mexico (FGJEM).

According to investigations by the capital's Citizen Security Secretariat (SSC), “El Chícharo” allegedly operated under the direction of Irving Jonathan “N,” alias “El Irving.” His activities reportedly focused on the sale and distribution of narcotics in the central area of Mexico City. Alongside “El Chícharo,” Sara Isabel “N,” also believed to be a member of the criminal group, was detained.

During the operation, law enforcement officials seized 554 doses of cocaine, 64 doses of marijuana, and a firearm with live ammunition. The SSC reported that the couple was detected while moving through the streets of Nezahualcóyotl as part of ongoing investigations into individuals connected to La Unión Tepito. Intelligence gathering and evidence collection led to a search warrant being obtained for a property in the Bosques de Aragón neighborhood, which was apparently used for storing drugs.

Following the execution of the search warrant by Mexico City police and FGJEM personnel at a residence on Bosques de Europa street, “El Chícharo” and Sara Isabel “N” were arrested. In addition to the narcotics and firearm, two cell phones, a vehicle, and a scooter were confiscated. The property has been sealed and is under official guard, while the detainees have been handed over to a public prosecutor.
