Suva retailers demand permanent fix for city's sewage problems

Retailers in Suva are urgently calling for a permanent solution to the city's persistent sewage problems. They warn that recurring blockages and overflows not only disrupt daily business operations but also pose a significant risk to public health and hygiene.

Jitesh Patel, President of the Suva Retailers Association, highlighted specific issues at the Robertson Road pumping station. He stated that the station has experienced frequent blockages, largely caused by plastics and other inappropriate waste being disposed of into the sewer system. This mismanagement of waste exacerbates the existing infrastructure challenges.

The retailers' association is pushing for immediate and effective action from city authorities to address the root causes of these sewage failures. They emphasize that a long-term strategy is crucial to prevent future disruptions and ensure a cleaner, safer environment for both businesses and the public in Suva.
