Sweden must play 'best game ever' against France, says coach Potter

Sweden's coach Graham Potter has declared that his team must deliver the performance of a lifetime to overcome a formidable French side in the upcoming World Cup knockout match. Potter emphasized the "incredible challenge" ahead, stating his players are capable of rising to the occasion. Potter recognized the significant gap in squad quality but stressed that "in football, anything is possible" and that Sweden has "a lot to gain" in a single elimination match. He noted that this is not a situation Sweden will face repeatedly against a team like France.

While acknowledging Kylian Mbappé and Ousmane Dembélé as major threats, Potter cautioned against focusing solely on them. He pointed out that France possesses numerous other "incredibly talented, top-class attacking players." Potter stressed the importance of Sweden being a cohesive unit and posing their own attacking threat, rather than solely defending for 90 minutes.

Reflecting on Sweden's group stage, which included a dominant 5-1 victory over Tunisia, a heavy 5-1 defeat to the Netherlands, and a 1-1 draw with Japan, Potter identified the loss to the Dutch as a crucial learning experience.
