Sweden: Suspect arrested after sword attack at Fagersta school

Residents of Fagersta, Sweden, are reeling after an 18-year-old former student attacked students at the Brinell high school with a sword, leading to his arrest on suspicion of murder and attempted murder. The suspect, who was reportedly dressed in black with a helmet and mask, has been taken into police custody.

These experiences, coupled with struggles with obesity and restricted access to food for weight management, are said to have had significant negative social impacts. Two years ago, the Swedish social services placed the suspect with a foster family, but this arrangement proved insufficient. Last year, he was sentenced to a stay at a youth home following a serious assault on a fellow student. A martial arts acquaintance told SVT that the suspect was "an outsider" and clearly "needed help," noting that he had stopped attending training sessions.
