Swimming: Louna Kasvio wins first senior race by 0.06 seconds

Louna Kasvio claimed her first senior victory by the narrowest of margins, beating Poland’s Klaudia Tarasiewicz by just 0.06 seconds in the European Open Water Swimming Cup in Tenero, Switzerland.

The 20-year-old Finnish swimmer won the 10-kilometer race in 1:56:01.51. She said the achievement meant a great deal to her and that she was very satisfied with the race.

This means a great deal, and I am really satisfied with the whole race.

Kasvio also said she had not planned to lead for almost the entire two hours. Even so, she described the race as valuable experience and said she was pleased with her performance.

The European Cup is a competition series for open-water swimming. This season includes three events after the first two planned races, in Protaras, Cyprus, and Munich, Germany, were canceled. As a result, the Tenero event became the season opener, and Kasvio’s victory gave her the lead in the women’s overall standings. The season continues in Razanac, Croatia, on Sept. 26.
