Swiss experts question Polish doctors' treatment in Jerzy Ziobro death case

Swiss medical experts have concluded that the treatment provided to Jerzy Ziobro, the father of Poland's former justice minister, may have been inadequate, potentially contributing to his death in 2006. A team of specialists from the University Center of Forensic Medicine in Lausanne reviewed Ziobro's case, finding that bypass surgery would have been a more suitable treatment for his triple-vessel coronary artery disease than the stent implantation that was performed.

The experts' opinion, obtained by the newspaper "Rzeczpospolita," states that fundamental medical data might have been overlooked in Polish medical assessments and during the autopsy. The Lausanne-based team, comprising six medical professors specializing in various fields including forensic medicine, clinical pharmacology, anesthesiology, cardiac surgery, and cardiology, based their assessment on the medical documentation and court case files.

Jerzy Ziobro died unexpectedly in July 2006 shortly before his scheduled discharge from a Krakow hospital after undergoing the stent procedure. His family has since pursued a lengthy legal battle, alleging medical malpractice. The Swiss experts' findings are expected to play a significant role in the upcoming appellate court ruling on July 1, which could conclude the two-decade-long quest for truth regarding the circumstances of his death.
