Swiss price watchdog agrees to letter rate hikes, parcel rates frozen until 2030

Switzerland's federal price watchdog announced an agreement with La Poste that will see letter postage costs rise in the coming years. The deal, reached after "intense negotiations," will affect standard and large letters sent via "courrier A" and "courrier B" services, as well as registered mail.

Starting in 2027 and continuing through 2029, the price for a standard "courrier A" letter will increase to 1.40 francs, with large letters costing 2.75 francs. For "courrier B" shipments, standard letters will cost 1.10 francs, mid-sized letters 1.35 francs, and large letters 2.25 francs. Registered mail will also see a 20-centime increase.

In exchange for these adjustments, La Poste has committed to not raising its parcel prices until 2030. This applies to both domestic and international parcel shipments. The postal service had initially sought an additional 102.7 million francs in revenue, but the final agreement is expected to provide a more moderate increase.
