Switzerland's Werro beats Olympic champion Hodgkinson for European 800m title

Audrey Werro of Switzerland staged a remarkable comeback to claim the European 800-meter title, defeating Olympic champion Keely Hodgkinson less than 24 hours after a severe fall in the semi-finals.

The 22-year-old, who earlier this season ran the fastest 800m time in 43 years, demonstrated resilience and composure. She recovered from a hard tumble in the semi-finals, where she finished last but was reinstated after it was determined that an opponent's contact caused her fall.

In the final, Werro surged ahead of Britain's Hodgkinson in the last 150 meters, crossing the finish line in 1 minute 54.81 seconds. Hodgkinson secured the silver medal with a time of 1:55.01, followed by Femke Broeders-Bol of the Netherlands in third place with 1:55.54.

Elsewhere at the championships, Norway's Karsten Warholm captured his fourth consecutive European title in the 400m hurdles, setting a new championship record of 46.63 seconds. Italy's Gianmarco Tamberi won his fourth European high jump gold medal, clearing 2.32 meters.
