SYRIZA undergoes major reshuffling: Famelos replaces Pappas, Zachariadis exits spokesperson role

SYRIZA is undergoing a significant internal reshuffling as party leader Sokratis Famelos implements changes within its parliamentary group and press office. Nikos Pappas has been removed from his role as parliamentary representative, with Theofilos Xanthopoulos and Kostas Barkas stepping into the position. Pappas, along with Rena Dourou and Pavlos Polakis, had reportedly been vocal in their criticism of Famelos's strategy.

Kostas Zachariadis's tenure as party spokesperson has also concluded amicably. He will be succeeded by Christos Giannoulis, a parliamentary representative from Thessaloniki. Zachariadis expressed gratitude to Famelos and the press office staff for their collaboration, acknowledging the evolving political landscape in Greece.

Entering the eighth year of the Mitsotakis government, we are at a critical crossroads. There are new data for our party, as well as for the country's political system. The establishment of Alexis Tsipras's party has brought new data that no one can ignore.

In a social media post, Zachariadis reflected on the party's current crossroads, noting the impact of Alexis Tsipras's new party formation. He emphasized the need for clear positions and decisions during critical times, stating that his departure from the spokesperson role was a mutual agreement with the party leader. Zachariadis affirmed his commitment to working towards a strong progressive left-wing bloc.

I was and always have been in favor of clear positions and decisions, especially in critical junctures. In this context and given that the press representative must publicly express the party's line, I discussed with the party leader my decision not to continue from the position of press representative and we agreed that this is the appropriate solution.
