T&T Under-16 netballers retain Jean Pierre crown

Trinidad and Tobago's Junior Calypso Girls have once again proven their dominance in Caribbean youth netball, retaining the Jean Pierre Caribbean Youth Netball Championships title. In a commanding performance on the final day of competition, the Under-16 netballers decisively defeated their rivals from Barbados with a score of 42-21.

T&T’s Junior Calypso Girls dominated their opponents, as they comprehensively whipped their Bajan rivals 42-21.

This victory is particularly sweet as it means the young netballers have maintained a perfect record across two consecutive tournaments. Last year, they secured the corresponding title in Barbados, also playing unbeaten. This year's triumph, achieved on home soil at the UWI Sports and Physical Education Centre in St. Augustine, further solidifies their status as the top Under-16 netballing nation in the region.

The final match against Barbados was a display of skill and determination. Both teams had entered the contest with unblemished records, having won all their previous matches. Trinidad and Tobago, however, showcased their superior form, delivering their highest score of the tournament in a prior match against Antigua & Barbuda (51-9) and culminating in this decisive win over their Bajan counterparts.

The Under-16 netballers thus maintained a perfect record, spanning two tournaments, having also played unbeaten when winning the corresponding competition in Barbados last year.

Both teams had gone into yesterday’s final match unbeaten, the hosts having posted the highest score of the tournament when defeating Antigua & Barbuda 51-9 on Thursday night, for their fifth win in as many matches.
