Tabari Artspace DIFC Presents Mohamed Monaiseer’s Searing Works on Conflict

Mohamed Monaiseer’s new exhibition takes its title from humanity’s proximity to catastrophe. “85 Seconds To Midnight,” opening at Tabari Artspace in Dubai’s DIFC from Sept. 11 to Oct. 1, brings together work shaped by war, occupation and imperial power.

The artist examines history through cycles, repetition and flows, while probing the unstable line between imagination and reality. Across the exhibition, borders, enemies and technologies change, but familiar structures of domination remain.

Monaiseer developed the body of work during the war in Gaza, which began while he was undertaking a residency at Can Serrat in Spain. The exhibition draws on a web of references to explore how violence repeats across time and how the stories used to understand it are subjective and constructed.

Time operates throughout the series in different ways. The exhibition’s title invokes the current setting of the Doomsday Clock, using its measurement of humanity’s closeness to catastrophe as a frame for the artist’s reflections on recurring violence.
