Tai Sugar rejected unqualified raw oil; it did not enter production, says Kaohsiung govt

The Kaohsiung City Government has clarified that a batch of unqualified raw oil from C.I.S. (Chung-Lien) did not enter Tai Sugar's production facilities. This statement comes after media reports indicated Tai Sugar had identified issues with raw oil in tank 311 in May.

According to the city government, Tai Sugar legally refused to accept the semi-finished raw oil because its Benzene (BaP) content exceeded the contractual limit of 2ppb, as verified by SGS testing. The oil was commissioned by Formosa Oil Refinery and processed by C.I.S. on behalf of Formosa.

Health authorities confirmed that the oil in tank 311 was sealed and has not entered the market. Tai Sugar's actual raw oil supply comes from tank 301, which is separate from the problematic tank. The company's refined oils consistently meet regulatory standards. The city government also implemented a precautionary recall of Tai Sugar products connected to the C.I.S. supply chain on July 9 to ensure consumer safety.
