Taichung doctor to lead support group for Ho Bi-chun, citing rising support among women

Taichung obstetrician Lee Mao-sheng is taking charge of the support association for Democratic Progressive Party mayoral candidate Ho Bi-chun, saying support among women has risen noticeably.

Ho is expected to formally register her candidacy on Sept. 2, accompanied by first-time voters, for the Nov. 28 Taichung mayoral election. Lee, a longtime supporter of the DPP, said campaign discussion had increased after President Lai Ching-te announced a plan to distribute NT$10,000 to every person next year.

Lee is expected to join Lai at the campaign headquarters’ establishment on Sept. 12, when the president will formally support Ho. He said every one of Taichung’s 29 districts now has a vice chair for the support association, with each overseeing groups covering about 30 neighborhoods.

Especially among women, support for Ho Bi-chun has clearly increased.

Ho has pledged that, if elected, she would submit a supplementary budget during the first session of the city council to distribute cash to residents. Lee said the pledge aligns with Lai’s nationwide cash distribution plan and has generated more discussion in Taichung’s urban, coastal and mountain districts.

Lee predicted that women voters would support Ho by a wide margin over her rival, Chiang Wan-an. His comments presented the campaign’s local organization and the cash proposal as central signs of growing support for Ho.
