Taichung Expands Smart Parking, Extends Electronic Payment Discount to Year-End

Taichung City is enhancing its smart parking infrastructure by adding 294 new smart parking spaces across three road sections near the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts and the Arts Park. This expansion brings the total number of smart, paperless parking spots in the city to 581. The new locations include Wuquan West Road, Wuquan West 3rd Road, and Wuquan West 4th Road. Initially implemented around the National Taichung Theater, the smart parking system allows drivers to pay fees easily using QR codes or by linking electronic payment methods. The city is further incentivizing the use of this system by extending a discount of up to 40% on parking fees for those who link their electronic payments. This offer is now valid until December 31, 2024. "The city government is vigorously promoting smart parking spaces, installing Taiwan's first low-position image recognition equipment," said Ye Zhaofu, Director of the Transportation Bureau. He added that the discount extension aims to encourage more citizens to experience the benefits of smart parking services. Clear signage, including green "P" symbols and "paperless payment" notices, along with QR codes and payment information stickers on lampposts, helps drivers easily identify and use the smart parking spots. After payment, drivers have a 10-minute grace period to leave the spot. The city's parking management office recommends pre-binding vehicle numbers for automatic payment deduction to save time and enjoy discounts.
