Taichung invests $493 million to connect key Beìtun roads, completion set for late 2027

Taichung City's Construction Bureau has initiated a significant infrastructure project in the Beìtun District, aiming to enhance the area's transportation network. The "Beìtun District Fengle North 2nd Road Connection to Fengle 3rd Road Planned Road Opening Project" officially commenced construction on June 1st. This ambitious undertaking involves a total investment of NT$493 million (approximately $15 million USD), with NT$90 million allocated for construction and NT$403 million for land acquisition. The project is slated for completion in the latter half of 2027.

The primary objective of this road extension is to alleviate traffic congestion and improve accessibility in anticipation of the growing demands generated by major developments. These include the Taichung Dome, the first and second phases of the "Dome Good Residence" housing project, and the extensive 14th Redevelopment Zone. City officials emphasize that the new road will not only boost convenience for the Taichung Dome vicinity but also strengthen the overall transportation capabilities of the Beìtun District.

Chen Da-tian, Director of the Construction Bureau, highlighted the strategic importance of the road's location within a key development hub. He stated that as the population continues to grow and large-scale public construction projects near completion, the city government is committed to advancing various transportation initiatives. The goal is to establish a comprehensive and efficient road network that enhances commuter convenience and regional development.

Upon completion, the 215-meter-long road, with widths of 25 and 20 meters, will effectively ease traffic flow during peak hours. It will also serve to connect the 14th Redevelopment Zone, the Intercontinental Baseball Stadium, the Chongde commercial district, and the Beìtun residential area. The project encompasses not only road construction but also the development of sidewalks, drainage systems, and lighting, creating an urban road space that balances traffic function with pedestrian-friendly environments. This will further complement the existing road network and improve overall transportation efficiency in the region.
