Taichung Man Drowns in Zhuoshui River, Body Found After Seven-Day Search

A young man from Taichung, identified by the surname Li, drowned in the Zhuoshui River in Xinyi Township while visiting friends. The 20-something man went to Xinyi Township on July 11 to see friends and decided to play in the river. He did not return home that evening, prompting his family to report him missing.

Search efforts began the following day, with police and firefighters discovering his clothing and shoes on the riverbed. Local farmers also reported seeing a young man playing by the river on July 11. Based on this evidence and the strong current, rescuers believed Li had drowned and been swept downstream.

After days of searching, on July 17, the seventh day of his disappearance, excavators were used to search a canal downstream. Li's body was eventually found in an irrigation channel diversion, where rescuers suspected he might have become trapped. The Nantou District Prosecutor's Office and a forensic examiner confirmed the cause of death as drowning, and the body was released to his family.
