Taichung Mayor Lu Shiow-yen campaigns in Taitung, defends KMT lawmakers' budget cuts

Taichung Mayor Lu Shiow-yen visited Taitung to rally support for KMT candidate Wu Hsiu-hua, the current speaker of the Taitung County Council. During her speech at the Tianhou Temple, Lu repeatedly referred to Taitung as Taichung, a slip that drew attention.

Lu highlighted the KMT's legislative achievements, including the passage of the largest-ever drone budget, which she likened to Taiwan's second "Protector of the Nation Mountain" after TSMC. She also mentioned the passage of a record social welfare budget totaling 3 trillion New Taiwan dollars.

Addressing the controversial cut to the budget for welfare mooncakes, Lu stated that lawmakers were exercising their duties. She noted that many people had stepped in to support the公益月餅 (public welfare mooncakes) initiative, and urged continued support for disadvantaged individuals to have a good Mid-Autumn Festival. Lu emphasized that central and local governments should collaborate for Taitung's benefit, suggesting that incumbent legislator Chen Ying, a DPP candidate, should remain in the Legislative Yuan to assist Taitung.

Lu presented Wu with a hot air balloon ornament from the recent "Shike Rock Hot Air Balloon Carnival" in Taichung, wishing her a successful handover and smooth ascent in her campaign. She encouraged attendees to support Wu, stating that a good legislator continues to help Taitung.
