Taichung MRT Green Line suffers new malfunction; doors fail to close, platform doors stuck

The Taichung MRT Green Line suffered another operational failure Tuesday morning, disrupting passenger service. Around 8 a.m., a train at Wenxin Sakura Station reportedly could not close its doors, forcing a temporary halt to operations. Passengers were delayed for more than 10 minutes until the issue was resolved around 9:12 a.m.

Adding to the morning's disruptions, platform screen doors at the Wenxin Forest Park Station failed to open, trapping passengers. City Councilor Hsieh Chih-chung expressed frustration over the recurring problems plaguing the Green Line, publicly questioning the MRT's capacity for improvement.

"The Green Line has repeatedly had problems; does it have the ability to improve?" Hsieh demanded, citing complaints from constituents who were stranded. One passenger reported being stuck on the train for over 10 minutes, while another experienced a similar delay at Fengle Park Station.

This latest incident follows a series of recent system malfunctions that have caused train suspensions on the Green Line. Taichung Mass Rapid Transit (TMRT) stated that an investigation into the cause of Tuesday's failure is underway. The repeated disruptions have raised concerns among residents and officials about the reliability of the city's new metro system.
