Taichung Traffic Bureau Deploys AI Agents for Real-Time Monitoring

Taichung City's Transportation Bureau is introducing an AI agent system to revolutionize traffic management, moving away from labor-intensive manual monitoring. This collaboration with a private tech firm, Ruai Technology, will initially focus on two critical areas: the bustling Xin Guang San Yue department store district and the Tai 74 Expressway's Taiyuan interchange.

The AI agents will leverage existing CCTV footage to analyze traffic and pedestrian flow. In the department store area, the system will monitor vehicle queues on major roads like Taiwan Boulevard and Civic Boulevard, as well as remaining parking spaces in surrounding lots. This real-time data will be displayed on an intelligent dashboard, providing officials with an immediate overview of traffic conditions.

The second phase will involve monitoring the Tai 74 Expressway's Taiyuan interchange, where traffic volume has significantly increased during peak hours. AI agents will analyze traffic on the on- and off-ramps, assessing queue lengths and vehicle flow to understand how traffic is being eased or backed up. This analysis will help officials better manage traffic between the expressway and local roads.

A third phase is planned for the upcoming Xinshe Flower Sea event. Temporary CCTV cameras will be installed at the shuttle bus terminal. The AI will then monitor the number of people waiting for shuttle buses and changes in crowd density. When waiting numbers reach a set threshold, the system will automatically generate an alert and notify relevant personnel, aiming to enhance the efficiency of large-scale event transportation services.
