Tainan and Gdansk Sign Cooperation Pact to Boost Bilateral Ties

Tainan City, Taiwan, and Gdansk, the capital of Poland's Pomeranian Voivodeship, have signed a bilateral friendly exchange and cooperation memorandum. This agreement signifies a deepening of ties between Tainan and Poland, following Tainan's establishment of a sister city relationship with Lodz last year.

Mayor Huang Wei-che of Tainan highlighted the strategic importance of the memorandum, emphasizing Tainan's role as a significant technology hub in Taiwan, with a robust semiconductor industry cluster and strong foundations in smart manufacturing. Tainan is also actively investing in emerging industries such as artificial intelligence and drones.

Following the establishment of a sister city relationship with Lodz last year, this signifies the continuous deepening of Tainan's relationship with Poland and adds another important achievement to Sino-Polish urban exchanges.

Gdansk and the Pomeranian region have also been actively developing in related fields. The memorandum is expected to promote corporate exchanges and industrial linkages between Tainan and Gdansk, enabling both cities to capitalize on new business opportunities presented by Industry 4.0. Beyond technology and trade, the cooperation will extend to culture, education, tourism, and agriculture, laying a solid foundation for a closer and more diverse partnership.

Tainan currently has two sister cities in Poland: Elblag, established in 2004, known for being the resting place of astronomer Nicolaus Copernicus, and Lodz, Tainan's third-largest Polish sister city, established in 2025, where Chi Mei Corporation has a production facility.
